Welding and work gloves are regulated PPE in most markets. Tritex manufactures to the European EN standards buyers ask for, arranges testing at accredited laboratories, and supplies the test reports and technical files your brand needs to place the CE mark. Below is what each standard covers and which of our products it applies to.

EN 12477: welding gloves

EN 12477 is the specific standard for protective gloves for welders. It defines two types. Type A gloves give higher protection against heat and mechanical risks and suit MIG, stick and heavy welding; Type B gloves give higher dexterity and suit TIG welding. Our MIG and stick gloves are made to Type A, our TIG gloves to Type B.

EN 407: heat and fire

EN 407 rates gloves for burning behaviour, contact heat, convective heat, radiant heat, small splashes and large splashes of molten metal, each on a scale of 1 to 4 (X where not tested). Welding gloves are typically tested for contact heat level 2 or 3 and small splash level 3 or 4. We quote the EN 407 rating on each product page where testing has been done.

EN 388: mechanical risks

EN 388 covers abrasion, blade cut, tear and puncture resistance, plus the ISO 13997 cut level (A to F) and an optional impact rating (P). It applies to our working gloves and is tested alongside EN 12477 on welding gloves. Typical ratings: rigger gloves 3144X, MIG gloves 3133X, cut resistant gloves up to level F.

EN ISO 11611: welding clothing

EN ISO 11611 is the standard for protective clothing used in welding and allied processes. Class 1 covers less hazardous welding with low spatter; Class 2 covers heavy welding, overhead work and confined spaces. Our leather welding jackets, aprons, sleeves and spats and leggings are made to Class 1 or Class 2 as specified.

CE marking and documentation

Welding gloves and clothing are Category II PPE under Regulation (EU) 2016/425, which requires type examination by a notified body. For private label programmes we arrange testing and certification in your brand’s name or supply products under our own certificates, and we provide the declaration of conformity, test reports, user information leaflet and technical file. For the United States we offer ANSI/ISEA 105 (cut, abrasion, puncture) and ANSI/ISEA 138 (impact) testing.

Factory certifications

Factory management system certificates and social compliance audit reports are shared with buyers on request as part of the supplier onboarding process. Ask your merchandiser for the current documents when you request a quote.
